Series Response-ability

Talk series “Religions and their handling of disability“

During the “Guide Gods“ guest performances by choreographer and performer Claire Cunningham, currently Factory Artist at tanzhaus nrw, dealing with topics like religion and disability, the idea for a talk series was born at the Düsseldorf Diakonie welfare organisation. The series sheds light on the topics negotiated by the “Guide Gods” performance from various perspectives, taking place at the Platz der Diakonie in Düsseldorf-Flingern from November 13 to 15.

Talk It’s Your Turn
following the performance of Doris Uhlich's “Every Body Electric”

Cologne artist Stephanie Thiersch designed a talk format based on choreographic scores that tries out another method of talking with one another. In small groups and in a relaxed atmosphere, the audience begins an exchange on eye level with international artists, local stakeholders and tanzhaus nrw employees, an exchange with an emphasis on active listening and respectful responsiveness. Yasmeen Godder’s “Common Emotions” performance serves as the foil for the reflection of one’s own position in the performance, but also in a wider social context.

Side Programme Claire Cunningham "Guide Gods"

There will be different accompanying talk formats in the context of “Guide Gods”. Julia Watts Belser, assistant professor at Georgetown University, has specialised in rabbinic literature and Jewish ethics and is an important interlocutor for Claire Cunningham. Her special attention is directed toward the topics of “Jewish feminism”, “queer culture”, “interdisciplinary environmental research” as well as “disability studies”. Together, they invite the audience to visit two talks on topics that have accompanied “Guide Gods” since its inception.
