COWBOYS

CANCELLED: Sebastian Weber Dance Company
Big stage
Dates
30.04.2020

Flagrancy and egomania, blustering assertiveness and unscrupulous intrusiveness! What once were the characteristics of the archetypical cowboy has now turned into the figurehead for populists - whether in government, on the street, or on the internet. Within the work “COWBOYS”, which is both rapid as well as raw, Leipzig-based choreographer Sebastian Weber celebrates all positions with his company: Those who take the law into their own hands, the underdogs that make these cowboys into heroes, as well as those outraged liberals with their sincerity and indignation who fire the kettle even more. We can discern the cowboy’s favourite antagonist* somewhere on the fringes. Whoever it may be, the more unfeasible the construction, the louder its assertion. And because cowboys always have to shoot someone, death also takes a dance. And there is no shortage of brilliant tap dance, sophisticated technique and a rollicking physiclness, bordering on the crude, while it is angry in every case.
Sebastian Weber started his career at the beginning of the 1990s under the custody of legendary tap dance masters like Chuck Green or Buster Brown in New York, going on to develop his own contemporary tap. As a choreographer, he has been producing genre-spanning, oftentimes multimedia pieces since 1998, won the Sächsischer Tanzpreis for “COWBOY” and is linked with LOFFT – Das Theater and Theatre Koblenz through the Doppelpass support. He most currently elicited excitement at tanzhaus nrw with “CABOOM” in 2019.
