»Role Model« tells a tale of solidarity between six young women. Masculine and feminine, undaunted and insecure, raw and tender – they are all that and everything in between. Within the setting of an upbeat dance concert with influences ranging from martial arts, voguing, hip hop, house, rap and singing, they celebrate their individuality, their diversity and the power of personal growth. They present a forceful image of empowerment, embedded into a soundtrack of electro funk and atmospheric soundscapes courtesy of DJ Streamer. »Role Model« is the first joint presentation of NBProjects and Utrecht-based production venue DOX, enabling an exchange between young talent and professional artists that are already established. Choreographer Nicole Beutler’s works roam around the intersections of fine arts, theatre and dance, always incorporated into a larger social context. She developed this performance in collaboration with author Magne van den Berg, a performance for and with unique performers of different origin, expertise and dance languages.
At a time when patriarchy, and Donald Trump at the forefront, presents its worst aspects, a countering voice is direly needed. I do not fight against man, I fight for female strength. Nicole Beutler in »de Volkskrant«, March 15th, 2018
