Classical Ballett

Course with Dawna P. Dryhorub

Combi Classes offer the highest flexibility to you and to us. If possible, this course will take place on site at tanzhaus nrw. But, as long as we are not allowed to let any visitors into our studios, we will continue this class online via ZOOM. The limited number of participants guarantees for personal feedback online as well as in the studio.

Dawna’s classes are marked by a profound knowledge regarding a healthy handling of the body. She is not only about the pure instruction of the ballet exercises but rather wants the participants to develop an awareness for the logic inherent in the movements. Even in a strictly codified art form such as ballet, many different movement ideas may lead to the same destination: “There is more than one possibility! In my classes, we learn to pay attention to what is needed for a movement, and what is good for each individual.” Dawna is known for her humorous explanations and her unceremonious manner, all the while conveying ballet enthusiastically.

Dawna P. Dryhorub

When Dawna P. Dryhorub first started ballet dancing at age three, the decision was already taken: “I want to be a dancer!” She took additional classes in tap dance, jazz dance and folkloristic dance, subseqently pursuing her dance education at the School of Toronto Dance Theatre where she specialised in Graham and classical dance. She received an invitation to collaborate on a project in Düsseldorf during the mid-1990s and swiftly became an artist close to the “Werkstatt”, the precursor of tanzhaus nrw. The native Canadian remained in Germany and participated in various productions by, among others, Rodolpho Leoni and Samir Akika. She offered trainings at Folkwang Tanzstudio for many years and was a guest lecturer for classical dance at the Folkwang University of the Arts. 2020 will see Dawna concluding her Master’s degree in dance sciences from Bern University in 2020.
